GameSpot Review: Most of you will remember Ready 2 Rumble Boxing as one of the Dreamcast's premiere launch titles - one of the great games that helped the system get off the ground. Now, R2R is available for the PlayStation. While the graphics may not be as pretty, and the game may not run as quickly as the original version, it still has the fast, combo-driven gameplay that made the Dreamcast version such a hit. The gameplay comes in two different flavors. Arcade mode lets you jump right in and play against either the computer or a friend. Against the computer, you'll see a fighting game-like progression through the ranks, culminating in a battle with a boss boxer. Which boss you get is determined by the game's difficulty setting. While the two-player mode may be the main draw, the meat of the single-player game is contained in the game's championship mode. Here, you'll select a boxer whose stats will be extremely low. You'll have to work the boxer through the ranks, through three classes. You can fight for cash prizes and then spend the cash on the training of your boxer. The training takes form in a series of little minigames. Do extremely well in the minigames, and you'll get an even higher bonus to your stats. You only have a certain number of fights in class, so you must strike a balance between fighting for cash and fighting for higher rankings. As you move through the ranks, you'll unlock more boxers in the championship mode, and you'll eventually unlock the bosses for play in the arcade mode. Getting each boxer's stats raised and completing the championship mode take a lot of time, but not nearly as much as it should since the game's AI is quite weak. The computer-controlled boxers simply can't combat stick-and-move tactics. So you really don't even need to pump up most of your boxers' stats. As long as they can get inside, get off a hit or two, and get away before the opponent can counter, they'll win with ease. Each version of Ready 2 Rumble Boxing contains one exclusive boxer. The PlayStation version has Gino Stiletto, a decent fighter, but he doesn't seem to fit into the R2R universe as well as the rest of the fighters do. OK, it's pretty much a given that the game isn't going to look as good as the Dreamcast version. But when compared with other PlayStation games, it still looks good. The game runs at a smooth speed that enables you to get into a groove and really excel at the game's combos. The boxers' faces get banged up nicely after a few rounds, and they still have some of their facial expressions. The boxers' personalities still shine through in the ring introductions, and the animation is quite good. The sound of the crowd, including shouts of encouragement from the corner men, brings a lot to the game's atmosphere. The cool thing about the crowd is that they sound different depending on how high your rank is. When you start out as a lowly unranked bronze-class fighter, no one will show up to watch you fight. But by the time you're ready to win the gold championship, you'll be duking it out in a sold-out arena. Ready 2 Rumble Boxing is a good arcade-style boxing game. If you're a fan of fighting games, you'll enjoy the game's special moves, combo system, and varied characters. Boxing fans will be happy with the game as well, because, although it isn't very realistic, the ability it gives you to throw your own combos surpasses the combo system used in Knockout Kings 2000. While it's not as good as the Dreamcast version, Ready 2 Rumble on the PlayStation is still a fun, good-looking game.--Jeff Gerstmann--

I like this game because you can play it against a friend. I tried playing against the computer, and I couldn't beet it. I beet it on N64, but I hadn't been able to beet it on Play Station. This is one of the best boxing games of all time. I highly recommend this to future gamers.

Ready to Rumble is a very interesting boxing game. It has quite a few characters to select from and is unique in it's design of each of it's characters moves according to their particular height weight and reach. It's a very nice game. I give it a 3 out of 5 just because the game play is fairly simple and the challenge is not that great. All that a side it's very entertaining and it will give you hours of fun with your friends. Put in your mouth piece, strap on your head gear, and touch gloves. Are you Ready to Rumble??

Boxing game presented in cartoon style with caicature boxers. Although you have to punch and knockout there is no blood or visible signs of violence. All boxers are larger than life, and the playability is good. In arcade mode you can play against computer or friend and there is a championship mode where you can place bets and take your boxer through the ranks training him or her in the gym along the way. Loads quickly also.

I've Been Ready 2 Rumble!, December 18, 2000

This game is the best! It is soooo addicting. When I first played it, I thought it was the worst game ever. Then, I got into it and now it is the best! When I first started, I didn't really know the buttons too well. Then, i figured out that smashing on all the buttons at once wasnt the right idea, and all it did was make your fingers sore. I timed my moves and mutilated my enemies. I don't even like boxing games, and I thought this game was exceptionally well made. Midway (the maker of the game) usually isn't a let down. I have also played Ready 2 Rumble Boxing Round 2 for Playstation 2 and that also is even better! If you own a Playstation, Ready 2 Rumble Boxing is for you.

I rented this game once thnking I would be up all night playing it. I went to sleep at 10:15 that night. This game has nothing to do. There are two modes, championship and arcade. Championship is where you pick a guy and go threw all these matches to uventually beat everybody and unlock someone else to do the exact same thing. You end up doing this for all 20 or so characters. Very boring. The arcade mode is just free fights. Go and pick your boxer and have your opponent pick theres and you fight. Again. very boring. If you want a good fighting game go for Knockout Kings.

Boxing at it's best!, June 9, 2000

This game is a definite must have for boxing/fighting gamers. It has wonderful and colorful graphics. Gameplay is fairly easy once you learn combos and the RUMBLE is the coolest thing about this game. If you have a playstation and love fighting go out and buy this game.

Great fighting game, December 18, 1999

One of te best fighting games i've ever played. Great graphics, easy control, and many options make this a Grade "A" game. The championship mode is cool, because there is a training room where you can build up your player's skills through a series of mini games. One is like Parrappa the Rapper. The characters are cool looking, and the two player mode is cool. If you like fighting games, go for Ready 2 Rumble. You won't be disappointed.
