This game has a somewhat childish storyline. If you don't agree, go to the capcom website and read a review for it.

I wish capcom would have put much effort in Mega Man 8 as they did Mega man 7. But this is still a fun game with all the aime cut scenes.

Another GREAT Megaman game!!!!!, May 29, 2002

... This game is very fun, believe me. Sure it dosen't have Zero, wall-climbing or other Megaman X characteristics but who cares! I still love it because what I love about Megaman games is that it is a game where you simply shoot, dodge and gain enemies abilities! Don't get me wrong, I love the Megaman X games idea to wall-climb but it really isin't THAT necesary. And about Zero, sure he a cool character but he wouldn't look good in normal Megaman games. So If you like Megaman action and would like to take a break from the dark story of Megaman X games then by all means pick this game up. It is a fun game that unfourtunatley takes about 3-10 hours to beat entireliy but keeps you entertained the whole time. (By the way, I also suggest Megaman X4-X6, they're GREAT too!!!)

2D gaming goodness., May 27, 2002

There are few titles being made today that carry the tradition of first generation console gaming, but Mega Man is one of them. Capcom has in my opinion aged the RIGHT way, improving the intensity of gameplay, the vast size of games, and the resolution and colors of the graphics while maintaining a fairly steady formula. Many complain that they're beating a dead horse with their (beautiful) 2D graphics and linear gameplay, but I think doing so provides an alternative to increasingly stunning visuals but ultimately flat gameplay of other more "up-to-date" developers.

That said, Mega Man 8 is largely a success. Unlike the Mega Man X series, which also maintains a very old-school feel but does a much better job of stretching the limits of available technology with its speed, variety of options and customization, and complex play control, Mega Man 8 is nothing more than a direct port of the 2nd or 3rd title in the series to a 32 bit system. The bosses are (somewhat) new, the power-ups are new, and now you can find bolts to upgrade your blaster and movement. But other than that, there's NOTHING that sets this apart from Mega Man 2. I enjoyed that about it, as I don't feel like blowing into my MM2 cartridge for 30 minutes to play for 10 before it freezes up, but I didn't feel compelled to hang on to this disc after I beat it after a couple of days.

Another new addition is the anime cutscenes, which I found to be subpar, irritating, and inconsistent with the look and feel of the rest of the game. Basically they seem to be an afterthought, something spliced in to seem like the game is more aware of its era and competition. The only other complaint I have, though a small one, is that Mega Man walks very slowly. If you're so impatient, you can slide him to speed up, but it's slightly annoying. Otherwise the control is as expected compared to the 7 other games precedeing it. Again it differs from the X series by utilizing much more simple operations. You can't duck, or bounce off walls, or double jump, or dash, or build new sets of armor. The simplicity of movement you are left with makes this game a much more strategic challenge. The controls are precise, but more thought is required when maneuvering around a boss or across disapearing platforms. It's a difficult game, but Mega Man always has been.

Also, I've read several comments bashing the game simply because Mega Man's voice sounds "girlie." Get over it. Mega Man is and always has been goofy looking, goofy moving, and now goofy sounding. This is a GAME, and traditionally one for kids. The X series is obviously designed for those of us who have grown up with the games and are now ready for something a bit more "mature," but this is basically a remake of a game I loved when I was 7 years old. And taken for what it is, it's quite a delight.

Bored, now!!!, April 6, 2002

This game is TERRIBLE! I was so bored I fell asleep playing it. Yuckapoo! It looks bad on the screen and it is hard to control. I think the old NES game is good, but this game is bad. Don't waste your money! THis game is LAME. It has no new ideas and I miss Zero. Bring Zero back he is my HERO! Tell your friends not to have their parents buy this game. They will be sorry.

Mega Man 8 for the playstation looks like Capcom just went and put something togethor for Mega Man 10th anniversary. I mean the voice actor for Mega Man and DR. Light are horrible. Mega Man sounds like a little 8 year old. Why did I give this 5 stars because I'm a Mega Man fanatic. Plus this is worth a look and probable would think this to be okay if your not a Mega Man fanatic. The story is interesting and more levels are added then previous Mega Man games and that's is why you should take a look
