Hard to control, July 17, 2002
Reviewer: Patricia Steiding from Petaluma, CA United States
This game is very difficult and the racers are hard to control. I got this for my daughter as a Christmas gift in 2000 and she was 7-1/2 at that time. She tried to play it several times and has found it very difficult and frustrating to play. I've tried playing it myself and found it very difficult to control. It definately is not a Crash Team Racing, which was easier to play.

Unless you can get this game at a substantially reduced price or for free I wouldn't waste the money on it as it is a difficult game to play & control.

A Muppet lover's dream, October 17, 2001

This is a wonderful game. Although the controls can be very frustrating at times, there is so much to do on every single board, that it takes hours and hours to complete. There are even hidden bosses. I would highly recommend this game to someone who has a good background knowledge of the Muppets. The movie clips are a lot of fun, and there are many voice clips to make it interesting and fun, too.

My son saved up his allowance for this. He is 7. ... My son actually loved it. It's fast paced, real fast paced. You have to be glued to the screen, literally or you will miss something as you race on by. He laughed a lot, but I am pretty sure he never quite figured out what he was doing. He stuck to one area of the game a lot, and I think it may be due to the fact that the other areas were a bit confusing. Thats makes for a difficult decision then. Most 7 year olds are very adept at playing and figuring out video games..... so should I reccomend this? Yes, for the money and the laughs, it's well worth it. In a world filled with many many violent video games, seeing the Muppets zoom on by was rather refreshing for a change. He does not play it a lot, but when he does, he plays for more than 30 minutes if we let him.

Not the best kart racer, but pretty darn good, September 27, 2001

As a big fan of kart racing games, I'll buy just about any of them. Muppet Race Mania is pretty standard for the genre, but it does a good job of standing apart from the pack with its colorful courses based on the Muppet movies and, of course, the fun characters of the muppets themselves.

The real treat here is stunt mode, which forces you to navigate some really tricky obstacle courses in loony muppet settings. These courses are more about controlling your kart than racing against time, and there are lots of clever contraptions to help you along the way. It's harder than it sounds. Some of the stunt courses took me a loooooong time to complete. It's an innovative feature that makes this game worth getting, even if you already own other kart games.

And it's a total bargain, too. How can you go wrong?

Great Game!!!!!, September 18, 2001

I have always beena fan of The Muppets but i was a bit unsure about whether or not to buy this game. I purchased this game in the end as it was quite cheap and i thought that if i didnt like it that i hadnt wasted much money, it turned out that i loved this game. You take on the role of any of 25 muppets and race throughout 24 tracks all taken from the muppet movies(Christams carol tracks are good). using funny weapons to try and get the upper hand on your oonents. Worth Buying

Race Mania is fun for the whole family, July 26, 2001

This game has something for everyone. Not only does my six year old son love it (and plays forever), but I enjoy it too. As fans of the Muppet Show, we get a kick out of playing our favorite characters and throwing chickens as the ones we dislike. There are tons of different racing courses, and vehicles, so it is like playing a different game each time we turn it on. There are also clips from various Muppet movies shown at the start of each course. The graphics are great with much detail. We love this game!!

Typical game with partially entertaining options., July 20, 2001

Graphics: 5/10 - The colour shading is nice when you're playing outside, but for the rest of the time, this looks pretty effortless and droopy. It's also hard to see where a passage leads.

Sound: 5/10 - The usual cartoon racing score hangs in the background, while the cars don't do anything too dramatic with their engines.

Value: 5/10 - Most racing games are worth the money because they're entertaining, but to make a long story short, this one isn't really worth paying for unless you're a really big fan of the muppets.

Overall: 5/10 - This is the sort of game you play in the game or record store while your waiting for Mum to finish her grocery shopping. In a game where you can hardly see where you're going, is it worth even playing? Yes, but only if Mum takes a couple of hours to find a broccoli stick.

Tons of fun even without the Muppet factor, June 13, 2001

The fact that this is based around the Muppets only adds to the fun. There are so many different tracks (including about 10 bonus/hidden tracks) plus multiple options for every track (boss, battle, racing, and adventure modes). It will take months just to go through everything once. Then you add in all the different Muppet options, the movie clips, the wide variety of vehicles and it just gets better and better. They even included the cheat codes for us impatient folks. The graphics are the only so-so part, but I've been spoiled by PS2 games so that may just be bias. I can hardly wait for MRM2 (hint, hint)

Fun for Muppet fans!!, June 6, 2001

This game is so enjoyable!! There are races, challenge courses, and 'stunts'!! It's extremely challenging if you can't figure out their little "secrets" ;-) I would highly recommend this game if you feel like laughing while exercising your playstation skills. Also, not only do you get to hear Kermit say, "Ha ha!", but you get to hear the Swedish Chef proclaim, "Shmork!!"
