Editorial Review: SuperCross Circuit is packed with pros. This game lets you race supercross all-stars Larry Ward, Mike LaRocco, John Dowd, and Tim Ferry on licensed dirt bikes from Honda, Yamaha, KTM, and Kawasaki. As if that was not official enough for die-hard dirt bikers, there are realistic racetracks to conquer, including Sam Boyd Stadium, Red Bud, and Glen One.

The game designers paid particular attention to recreating rugged track and bike conditions that muddy up (literally) an otherwise clean racing experience. For example, your bike must avoid puddles that haven't quite dried up. Expect to get dirty; during our test of this game, we found it to be nearly impossible to avoid getting our virtual bikes caked with mud.

Two players can face off in a single race or, if you prefer, you can race for a whole season to accumulate titles and cash prizes for bike upgrades. If you conquer the realistic tracks contained in the game, you can design 20 monster tracks with the track editor. This feature allows you to create your own hairpin turns, giant jumps, and deep pits. --Carrie Bell

Pros:
Features professional racers, actual racetracks, and licensed dirt bikes from top bike manufacturers
Customize your own tracks

Cons:
Trick moves do not count for points or rankings
Computer-generated opponents are difficult to beat

GameSpot Review: As supercross and other forms of dirt-bike racing gain popularity, you can be sure that game companies will pick up on the trend and unleash a slew of dirt-bike racing titles. We've already seen a few PlayStation games, like Acclaim's Jeremy McGrath Supercross series and THQ's Championship Motocross Featuring Ricky Carmichael. 989 Studios is getting into the act with SuperCross Circuit, a fast-moving game with real-life tracks, equipment, and professional riders.

The thing that really sets SuperCross Circuit apart from other dirt-bike games is its speed. The game runs at a nice, fast pace, and maintains a reasonably high frame rate throughout the one- and two-player modes, even when there are several bikes on the screen at once. The bikes are also very easy to control with the analog pad and three main buttons, used for gas, brake, and goosing the throttle for a quick speed burst. You'll want to goose the throttle on the face of most of the jumps to maximize your air. Getting big air not only lets you fly over certain obstacles, but it's key in the game's freestyle mode, where you score points by doing tricks. The trick system centers around the L2 and R2 buttons. Different presses on the D-pad in conjunction with presses on the back shoulder buttons lets you select from several different tricks.

Aside from the freestyle mode, which must be unlocked, you've got a quick-and-dirty arcade mode, a practice mode, and a season mode. Season mode lets you name your rider, pick out what type of clothes he'll be wearing, and race all the game's tracks. As you race, you'll earn money, which can be used to purchase new bikes, as well as to upgrade engines, exhaust systems, tires, and suspension. Also, parts on your bike will wear out as you race, so you'll occasionally need to repair existing parts. As you complete seasons, you'll be able to move up from 125cc to 250cc bikes. You can create both freestyle and standard racetracks with the game's track editor, which gives you a grid and a list of track parts. It works pretty well, but there are already 25 tracks in the game, so you won't feel forced to create tracks to have a good time. You can, of course, save tracks to a memory card and race them in one- or two-player exhibition races.

SuperCross Circuit's textures occasionally look a little too pixilated at times, but it's a worthwhile trade-off when you take into account the sheer speed of the game and the playability that speed provides. Three camera angles let you see the action from behind the rider, the handlebars, and behind the bike. The standard behind-the-bike view is nice, but it can get extremely confusing out of the starting gate, where all the bikes are onscreen and jockeying for position. The game does a good job of emulating the buzzing sound of loud dirt bikes, but that doesn't mean it's not terribly annoying.

Speed, easy control, and lots of tracks make SuperCross Circuit a whole lot of fun for one or two players. Fans of the sport will enjoy the real riders, tracks, and equipment, but the game is simple enough for anyone to pick up and play, regardless of the person's interest in supercross racing. --Jeff Gerstmann

The game is great for the PS1. It has the sounds and realism for the motorcyle enthusiast. Challenging once you reach the 250cc.

However, I was worried about the seller. It took over two weeks to get the merchandise and I was already filing complaints. The game arrived in excellent condition!

This is BY FAR the best motocross game out. I have played them all and the rest are a huge waste of money. I ride motorcycles and this game is very realistic in a lot of ways. It has excellent body movements and you can hit the corners fast. All of the tracks look great and you don't get stupid points for doing tricks while you race, which doesn't happen in real life! I played supercross 2000, and I couldn't stop laughing at it. The Mcgrath game is weak too. Go buy Supercross Circuit !

Best Dirtbike Racing Game EVER, April 7, 2000

Supercross Curcuit is the absolute best motocross/ supercross game ever. For example, there are the real life pro riders including Ezra Lusk, Doug Henry, Steve Lampson, Jeff Emig, Mike LaRocco, the 1999 Motocross National Champion Greg Albertyn along with many other riders. This game has berm-busting tracks including Southwick, Glen Helen and the best supercross tracks in the United States. To make the tracks even better there are killer graphics. There are also three freestyle motocross tracks where you perform heart stopping tricks with your favorite riders on real bikes such as the Yamaha's YZ 400. Hook up the second controler and have a blast with your friends. You can also create some phat supercross or freestyle tracks. Do you like challanges? Try the circuit mode where you race a season and get points just like the pros. If this sounds like it's ally buy the 989 Studios', Supercross Circuit today!

This a great game for anyone who is a fan of real motocross or not. The game play rivals Ricky Carmichael's version, but the extras set it apart, like the create your own track feature, real racers, real bikes, 25 real tracks, and real sponsor brand names. The speed of the game is very fast and makes it very challenging. The differences in the 125 and 250 bikes is very noticable and realistic. The 2 player career function is pretty cool too. A very challenging racing game even if you are not a follower of real Supercross.

This game is true to form. With pipes and motors from Pro Circuit and FMF as well as tracks that are so true to form it is scary- (trust me, I have seen several Motorcross events). This game can keep you captivated for a long time. The 125cc bikes are quick and agile, while the 250cc and 426cc (yes, the Yamaha thumper is included, but you have to work to ride it) ride a bit heavier, but have the pulling power. Definitely check this one out.

Way too easy - BORING!, December 23, 1999

I mastered this game in 10 minutes - now its gathering dust. Its a good game if you just want to hold the throttle down and watch your bike fly around the track bouncing off invisible walls. If you want a challenge I suggest Supercross 2000. The bike acts much more realistic and its hard to beat the other riders. Supercross Circuit is probably best suited for 6-8 year olds - anyone older is gonna get bored real quick.

A Must Have!, November 18, 1999

Finally a motocross game that is somewhat realistic! Unlike Jeremy McGrath 98, the other riders are hard to beat. Good graphics and sound compliment the fast paced action (unlike EA Supercross 2000). The plethora of tracks are fun, challenging and, lifelike. You don't race through barnyards or have options to take shortcuts around corners wich is nice! I'ts as real as it gets! My fingers are sore from playing but it is worth it!
